Have a tree removed
Tree removal is the responsibility of the property owner, including trees in the right-of-way area in front of the property. Trees in the public right-of way must be inspected, and approved for removal by a City of St. Matthews arborist, or city designated agent, before any removal can be performed. Property owners who remove trees without approval are subject to fines and/or legal prosecution.
Should a tree in the right-of-way be approved for removal, the city will provide a free grinding of the tree stump at the property owner’s request.
To request an inspection of a tree in the public right-of way, contact the city arborist by calling 502-899-2544, or email via the Contact Us online form.
Obtain a copy of an ordinance
Visit the City Hall administrative office during regular business hours. Please provide the ordinance number that you are requesting.

Obtain a map of St. Matthews city limits
A map is available to view online, or obtain a larger printed color copy at City Hall at a cost of $1.25 per copy.
Report a barking dog
Telephone the St. Matthews Police Department dispatcher at (502) 893-9000. Please provide duration of the barking, description of the animal, and location of the animal, if possible.
It is important that the police officer observe the barking for a citation to be issued. In most cases, first time offenders will be issued a courtesy warning. It is not necessary for you to give your name.
Report a pothole

Please provide the closest address to the pothole, along with any other pertinent information that will allow crews to quickly locate the pothole for required repairs.
Parking lots and driveways are responsibility of the property owner.
Report a property with tall grass / weeds
Per City of St. Matthews ordinance, grass must not be taller than 6 inches.
To report property with unkempt grass, telephone St. Matthews Code Enforcement at (502) 899-2512 or email via Contact Us.
Provide the property location, along with any other pertinent information that will assist the enforcement officer in abating the situation. NOTE: If rodents have been observed, contact Louisville Metro health department via Metro Call 311.
Report a solicitor
Telephone the St. Matthews Police Department dispatcher at (502) 893-9000.
You will need to provide the location, physical description, along with the direction of movement of the solicitor being reported. It is not necessary for you to give your name.
Any occupant of a residence may place near his/her door a clearly visible notice such as “NO SOLICITORS INVITED.” Any solicitor who ignores this notice is in violation of the city ordinance and should be reported immediately to the St. Matthews police department.
Every person desiring to engage in soliciting in the City of St. Matthews, must have a St. Matthews Certificate of Registration. Such certificate shall be carried by the solicitor along with the required Louisville Metro certificate and shall be displayed upon request.
All citizens are encouraged to request that each individual solicitor produce both of these documents. NOTE: Corporate or blanket business certificates are not valid documents.

Report a vehicle parked improperly
For vehicles parked improperly on city streets or residential property, such as up in the front yard, telephone St. Matthews Code Enforcement at (502) 899-2512 or email via Contact Us online.
Provide the property address, vehicle description, along with any other pertinent information that will assist the enforcement officer in abating the situation. The Code Enforcement Officer must see the violation.
For vehicles illegally parked in No Parking, Fire Zones or designated Handicap parking spaces, telephone the St. Matthews Police Department dispatcher at (502) 893-9000. Provide the property location, vehicle description, along with any other pertinent information that will assist the police officer in abating the situation.
Report an animal off leash
All animals shall be kept under restraint at all times. A leash is to be no longer than 10 feet in length. Under no circumstances shall verbal command or electronic command be considered a leash. No person shall permit any animal to run at large anywhere out of doors in the city, except upon the property of the owner.
Animals off leash or running loose should be reported to the Louisville Metro Animal Control at (502) 473-7387. For emergency situations notify the St. Matthews Police Department dispatcher at (502) 893-9000.
Report an out of service streetlight
Contact the Louisville Gas & Electric (LG&E) Lighting Department online via the LG&E website, report by telephone to Metro Louisville by dialing 311, or St. Matthews City Hall (502) 895-9444.
Please provide the closest address to the out of service streetlight, along with any other pertinent information that will allow utility crews to quickly locate the streetlight for required repairs. Most streetlights are repaired within 72 hours of the report being made.
Report garbage/recycle that was not picked up

Request a free tree
To request a free tree to be planted in the right-of- way in the front of your property contact City Hall Public Works at (502) 899-2517 or use the Request a Tree form on the City Arborist page.
Request storm debris pick up
Contact City Public Works at (502) 899-2517 or via the Contact Us online.
Give address of the debris to be picked up. Note: Debris must be placed in front of the property, along the edge of the street. It is not necessary to bundle or cut into 4 foot lengths. Please do not block roadways with accumulate debris.
Reserve a park pavilion or ball field
For a pavilion reservation telephone City Hall for availability, utilize the website electronic availability form on the Parks & Pavilions page, or inquire in person at City Hall.
