Mayor Tonini called the caucus meeting to order at 5:10 p.m. EST This meeting was for discussion purposes only. No decisions were made.
The occupational tax rate is .0075. The Mayor explained that once the occupational tax was implemented, the police department was able to be funded, the large property tax discount could be provided, and a variety of other City expenses were covered. Mr. Singler read a tax collection policy that he developed for other cities. He suggests the City adopt a tax collection policy and publish it on the City’s website. Councilmember Hernandez suggested an increase in the occupational tax to 1%. Mr. Singler cautioned that any policy changes should be communicated to the businesses with plenty of lead time.
The budgets submitted by the department heads were discussed.
The council asked for a history of cost-of-living raises given to employees.
The finance committee would like to meet with Mr. May to prepare the budget for the next council meeting.
Adjournment
The discussion ended and the meeting concluded at 6:40 p.m. EST
Respectfully submitted:
Richard Tonini, Mayor
Judi Kassebaum, City Clerk
