The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order by Mayor Bernie Bowling at 7:02 p.m. The meeting was held at City Hall located at 3940 Grandview Avenue.

MINUTES: A motion was made by Councilman Tony Weiter to approve the minutes from the August 9, 2011 meeting. The motion was seconded by Martha Schade.

Upon vote (7-0), the minutes were approved.

MUNICPAL ORDER 11-10 Appointment of Police Officer Jonathan Smith

Councilman Tonini recapped the biography of Jonathan Smith, candidate for Class B Patrolman with the St. Matthews Police Department. Mr. Smith most recently has been serving with the Shepherdsville Police Department and comes highly recommended from their Chief of Police. He is an active member of the Military Reserves and has served 3 oversees tours of duty. His most recent was a 2008 tour in Iraq. He and his wife April are residents of St. Matthews and they have one son Kaden, age two. Mr. Haunz then read Municipal Order 11-10. Councilman Tonini made a motion to approve the appointment of Officer Smith. The motion was seconded by Martha Schade.

Upon vote (7-0) the motion was approved and Officer Smith took the Oath of Office.

MUNICIPAL ORDER 11-11 Tafel Motors Development Plan

Foster Haunz stated the wording of the plan is fine. Councilman Flynn asked for clarification that the issue at hand is the approval of an access gate. Mayor Bowling gave an affirmative confirmation. Councilman Flynn made a motion to approve Municipal Order 11-11. The motion was seconded by Councilman Monohan.

Upon vote (7-0) the motion was approved.

MUNICIPAL ORDER 11-12 Appointment of St. Matthews ABC Administrator

Foster Haunz began the discussion pointing out that a past ordinance limits the appointment of a local ABC administrator to be the City Clerk or a Code Enforcement Officer. After discussing options currently available, Councilman Tony Weiter made a motion to appoint current City Clerk Susan Clark as the local ABC administrator. The motion was seconded by Martha Schade.

Upon vote (7-0) the motion was approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

· Councilman Weiter said the newsletter was mailed on schedule.

· Councilman Monohan informed the council the final walk-through for the Community Center Park is scheduled for Wednesday, August 24, 2011. Councilman Tonini said
it is his observation the basketball courts at the Community Center Park are heavily used. Councilman Monohan indicated that while improvements will be made to the park, there are no plans to eliminate any of the basketball courts.

· Councilman Flynn said that he and Councilman Schade will meet next week regarding insurance for the City.

BILLS

Councilman Tonini made a motion to approve the bills listed and that checks be drawn on the City’s Treasury in the amount of $80,600.68. The motion was seconded by Councilman Schade.

Upon vote (7-0) the motion was approved.

ADJOURNMENT

Councilman Flynn made a motion to adjourn and the motion was seconded by Councilman Schade. All being in favor, the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
